Why this site exists
Material estimating is the part of a home project where money quietly disappears. Order short and you lose a Saturday to a second store run. Order long and you are left with seven bags of mortar hardening in the garage and a receipt the store will not honor.
The math itself is not hard. It is just scattered. It sits buried in manufacturer PDFs, gets contradicted between websites, and is almost never explained. Tupep exists to put that math in one place, show the formula behind it, and give you an answer in the units you will actually buy: cans, boxes, bags, rolls, and boards.
How Tupep is different
We show the formula. Every calculator states the equation, the coverage constant, and the waste factor it applies. Nothing is a black box. If you want to check the arithmetic on paper, you can.
We state our assumptions out loud. A drywall estimate assumes a stud spacing. An epoxy estimate assumes a coating thickness. These assumptions change the answer, so we put them on the page instead of hiding them behind a result.
We give you shopping quantities, not abstractions. “412 square feet” does not help you at the checkout. “13 sheets of 4×8” does.
We do not sell anything. Tupep has no store, no affiliate arrangements with manufacturers, and no sponsored placements. We have no reason to inflate a quantity.
What we do not do
We do not do structural engineering. You will not find beam sizing, load calculations, or footing design here, because getting those wrong is dangerous and they belong with a licensed engineer.
We do not replace your local building code. Stair geometry, fire-rated assemblies, and insulation minimums vary by jurisdiction. Our numbers are planning estimates. Your inspector has the final word.
We do not guess. If a figure varies too widely across sources to state responsibly, we give the range and explain what moves it.
How figures are verified
Every calculator on this site is built from a published industry formula, checked against multiple manufacturer data sheets, and confirmed against a worked example before it goes live. Our Methodology page explains the process in detail.
