About Tupep

Tupep is a free collection of home project calculators built for homeowners and DIYers who want a straight answer to one question: “How much material do I actually need?”

Whether you’re painting a bedroom, pouring a concrete slab, laying tile, or building a fence, buying the wrong amount of material costs you money — too little means a second trip to the store, too much means wasted cash sitting in your garage. Every calculator on Tupep uses standard industry formulas and coverage rates, includes sensible waste factors, and explains its assumptions so you can adjust them to your project.

Why we built Tupep

Tupep started with a frustrating Saturday afternoon and a half-painted wall. The paint can said it covered 400 square feet, the room measured 12 by 14, and somewhere between the ceiling height, two windows, and a door the arithmetic stopped being obvious. Most online estimators either asked for a dozen measurements nobody has on hand, or spat out a single number with no explanation of where it came from.

So we built the opposite: calculators that ask only for the measurements you can actually take with a tape measure, show the assumptions they are working from, and explain the result in a sentence you can act on at the hardware store. No sign-up, no email wall, no app to install. Type in your numbers, get your answer, get back to work.

What you’ll find here

Our calculators cover the most common home and yard projects: painting and wallpaper, tile and grout, drywall and insulation, flooring and trim, concrete, gravel, mulch, sod and grass seed, fences, decks, stairs, and epoxy coatings. Each tool is paired with a plain-English guide that walks through how the math works, what affects the numbers, and tips that save you money at checkout.

How we keep it accurate

The formulas behind our tools come from manufacturer coverage specifications and standard construction estimating practice. We state every assumption (coverage rates, waste percentages, standard dimensions) directly on the page, so nothing is a black box. That said, every project is different — always check the coverage printed on your specific product, and treat our results as a well-informed starting point.

Who runs Tupep

Tupep is an independent site, built and maintained by a small team with hands-on experience in home renovation and remodeling work, backed by published manufacturer specifications and standard construction estimating references. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or paid by any paint, flooring, lumber, or building-material manufacturer. No brand can pay to be recommended in our guides, and we do not accept sponsored calculator placements.

When we update a formula, a coverage rate, or a waste factor, we update the guide that goes with it so the explanation always matches the math. If a manufacturer changes a published coverage specification, our numbers follow the manufacturer, not the other way around.

How Tupep stays free

Every calculator and guide on this site is free to use, and we intend to keep it that way. Running Tupep costs money — hosting, development time, and the research behind each tool — and we cover those costs with advertising displayed alongside our content. Advertising revenue never influences which materials, brands, or methods our guides recommend, and advertisers have no input into our editorial content.
